What’s that I see? Is it power-five conference tournaments starting? It is! So exciting that conference tournaments are really starting to ramp up and I am here to dissect these tournament matchups before the big tournaments. Here are today’s best games.
Washington vs. Arizona
4:30 pm central, Pac-12 Networks
Line: Arizona -6.0
The Pick: Washington +6.0
Listen, I want to pick Arizona so badly here, I love this team. But they have been kind of terrible recently, dropping four of their last five games including a home loss to Washington. Nico Mannion has already declared for the NBA Draft which gives me a feeling that he might be checked out. Washington does a lot of scoring from beyond the arc where Arizona allows a lot of its scoring from. Washington has more momentum, is a lot more consistent and Arizona seriously struggles away from home, I think this will be a one-possession game.
Minnesota vs. Northwestern
5:00 pm central, Big Ten Network
Line: Minnesota -8.5
The Pick: Northwestern +8.5
Northwestern is coming off an enormous upset of Penn State and may be riding a hot hand. Now I in no way expect them to win this game but I do see this game being a lot closer than eight points. Minnesota allows a lot of their points from inside the arc and while Northwestern doesn’t exactly have the best offensive stats, they are a bigger team that doesn’t force turnovers and can win on the glass against Minnesota. Let’s go Cats!
Stanford vs. California
8:00 pm central, Pac-12 Network
Line: Stanford -9.5
The Pick: Stanford -9.5
Stanford may have finished their season with two losses but this team is a lot better than people give them credit for, especially according to KenPom. The Cardinal boast the seventh best defense in the nation and they are lockdown from three, limiting opponents to a sub-30% clip and Cali has the 325th worst two-point percentage in the nation. The Bears have truly struggled away from home this season, as shown by their 16-point loss at Stanford earlier this season. Give me the trees!
Vanderbilt vs. Arkansas
8:30 pm central, SEC Network
Line: Arkansas -9.5
The Pick: Vanderbilt +9.5
Arkansas has kind of fallen off the rails of late, losing seven of their final ten games this season. Vanderbilt’s biggest strength is getting to the rim and getting fouled which Arkansas allows a lot of. Vanderbilt has been playing better than the Razorbacks of late, winning their last two games after a pretty terrible SEC showing. I see Arkansas taking this one down with the Commodores covering in an exciting game.
TCU vs. Kansas State
8:00 pm central, ESPNU
Line: TCU -1.5
The Pick: TCU -1.5
It’s been a season of ups and mostly downs for both teams in this matchup but TCU has showed up more recently, beating Baylor and a heartbreaker against Oklahoma with a game against Kansas thrown in there. In both games this season where TCU and Kansas State faced off this season, TCU has won. TCU’s consistent scoring from three shouldn’t be stopped in this game and while the Wildcats force a lot of turnovers, TCU has weathered the storm in games past. Give me the Horned Frogs here.
- Syracuse vs. North Carolina (-3.0): UNC -3.0 (POD)
- Pittsburgh vs. NC State (-4.5): NC State -4.5
